SYMBIOSIS Rehabilitation Center

Rehabilitation center: development of an innovative comprehensive psychological rehabilitation program designed specifically to help those who have witnessed the war in Ukraine overcome post-traumatic stress disorder.

Millions of Ukrainians, both civilians and service members, have endured the terrible burden of traumatic stress in various ways, each with its own unique degree of impact and severity.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that develops in people who have lived through a shocking, frightening, or dangerous event, such as war and combat, domestic violence and abuse, natural disasters, or exposure to mass violence.

Among veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, an adaptation is often observed that may be described as "paranoid."

This adaptation, reflected in mistrust, a tendency toward taking offense, and restricted affect, is inseparably linked to the meaning that the experience of combat held for these veterans.

Both in combat and in postwar civilian life, rage and readiness to counterattack serve to suppress fear and vulnerability and to deny guilt.

Overcoming the consequences of post-traumatic stress disorders, both in service members and in civilians who have witnessed the horrors of war, is a significant and pressing challenge for Ukraine in the near future.
